James Tahhan, known as Chef James, from Telemundo's morning show “Un Nuevo Día,” developed his passion for food at an early age. As a distinguished and popular chef in U.S. Hispanic television, he has been chosen as one of 2014 People en Español’s “50 Most Beautiful” through voting on PeopleEnEspañol.com. Also this year, the 25 year-old TV personality and entrepreneur just opened his first restaurant SABORES by Chef James in Miami.
Born in the small town of Los Teques in Venezuela, Chef James comes from a large family of Arab-Armenian origin with large cultural influences toward food. From an early age, he spent much of his days in the kitchen with his parents, which was the place where he began to develop a taste and attraction for gastronomy. His favorite toys went from plastic carts to kitchen utensils such as pots, spoons and spatulas.
At the age of 13, he moved to the United States with his mother. In his adolescence, he suffered from childhood obesity and that’s when he decided to turn his love of cooking to creating healthy meals. Additionally, he turned to sports where he practiced tennis and martial arts. Later in college, he pursued a degree in chemistry with the goal of becoming a dentist, however, he later changed to his true passion, cooking. He began his culinary training and studies at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, where he specialized in international cuisine and pastries.
Following graduation, James joined Telemundo’s morning show "Levántate", which later became “Un Nuevo Día.” Since then, he has conquered viewers across the nation with his unique recipes and charisma.
