Benny Medina serves as executive producer on the NBC drama “Shades of Blue” and "World of Dance."
Medina is a producer, talent manager and record executive who has played an integral role in the success of today’s most popular personalities such as Will Smith, Sean “P Diddy” Combs, Jennifer Lopez, Tyra Banks, Usher and Mariah Carey. Medina launched both Carey and Usher’s albums in 2008 while co-creating the Emmy Award-winning television talk show “The Tyra Banks Show.”
At 24, Medina became the head of A&R for Motown, working as a protégé to Berry Gordy Jr. Under Gordy, Medina wrote and produced for legendary Motown acts such as the Temptations, Smokey Robinson and Billy Preston.
Medina then moved on to Warner Bros. Records, where iconic executive Mo Ostin brought him in as the VP/GM of the Urban Music Division and tasked him with building and cultivating the careers of the company’s urban artists. While there, Medina collaborated with artists such as Ray Charles, Babyface, Prince, Chaka Khan, Madonna, Paul Simon and Fleetwood Mac.
After leaving Warner Bros., Medina and longtime friend Jeff Pollack formed Medina/Pollack Entertainment, which became the full-service management and production company Handprint Entertainment where the two of them created the hit sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”
Medina played a crucial role in elevating Lopez into the international film and music superstar she is today. Helping her land not only a #1 album but also #1 film “The Wedding Planner” on the same weekend was an historic achievement no artist had ever accomplished.
Medina is currently an executive producer on the popular ABC Family award-winning series “The Fosters.” Medina also produced the feature film “The Boy Next Door” and played an important role in helping write Lopez’s first book, “True Love,” which landed on the New York Times bestsellers list.
Medina and Lopez have partnered with Caesars Entertainment to launch the much-anticipated Jennifer Lopez residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas in 2016.
