Kicks off nation-wide Community Empowerment Tour and releases report showcasing the power of U.S. Hispanics
MIAMI – September 10, 2018 – As part of Telemundo’s award-winning El Poder En Ti corporate social responsibility platform, today the company announced the launch of a nationwide Latino empowerment campaign, Somos El Futuro: The Future Is US. The multiplatform initiative will highlight the impact Latinos are having on America’s economic future, social attitudes and cultural trends, while aiming to enhance the Hispanic community’s power through increased civic engagement.
Today’s launch is accompanied by a new report detailing how American Latinos are growing in numbers, expanding their impact and shaping the future of the United States. Latinos are the driving force behind the population growth of the U.S., accounting for half the increase since 2000.  At nearly 18% of the total American population, they are the youngest racial or ethnic group in the country. Beyond their growing numbers, today, Latinos in all 50 states are influencing every facet of American life – as consumers, students, job creators, cultural influencers and voters.

The campaign will feature a series of segments across network shows including “Un Nuevo Día,” “Al Rojo Vivo” and “Noticias Telemundo,” among others. Telemundo’s talent, including international Spanish-language television icon Don Francisco, and “Noticias Telemundo” anchor José Díaz-Balart, will take part in the campaign.
Telemundo will embark on a Somos El Futuro: The Future Is US, cross-country Community Empowerment Tour to inform and provide resources to consumers on opportunities to register to vote. The Somos El Futuro: The Future Is US Community Empowerment Tour will make stops in Phoenix, Houston, Orlando, among other key cities across the country. Throughout the tour, Telemundo will leverage partner organizations’ work to increase civic participation and engagement among Latinos.
In partnership with national Hispanic-serving organizations Voto Latino, UnidosUS, Hispanic Federation, NALEO Educational Fund and Mi Familia Vota, Telemundo is utilizing its ability to reach tens of millions of U.S. Latinos across platforms to inform, educate, and provide the tools to make voter registration easy and accessible for Hispanic audiences.
