TELEMUNDO 48 ÁREA DE LA BAHÍA / KSTS ANNOUNCES ANCHOR CHANGES FOR ITS WEEKEND AND EVENING WEEKDAY NEWSCASTS

Station names Sandra Cervantes evening anchor and welcomes Fatima Navarrete as weekend anchor

SAN JOSE, CA – (July 16, 2020) – Telemundo 48 Área de la Bahía / KSTS announced that news anchor Sandra Cervantes has taken on a new role at the station as weekday evening anchor. Cervantes will co-anchor the station’s evening weekday newscasts Noticiero Telemundo 48 at 5, 6, and 11 PM. Additionally, Telemundo 48’s Fatima Navarrete will anchor the station’s weekend newscasts, Noticiero Telemundo 48 Fin De Semana.

These changes strengthen Telemundo 48’s news teams and the station’s commitment to inform its viewers seven days a week, Primeros Contigo, providing information and resources in each newscast, including the Bay Area’s only local Spanish language newscast on Saturdays.

“We are thrilled that Sandra is taking on this new challenge,” said Rossyris Silva, Vice President of News for Telemundo 48. “She has co-anchored our noon newscasts since we launched it in 2018 and has brought energy and tireless work ethic like no other, delivering on our commitment of Primeros Contigo — to be first with our viewers. I can’t wait for our viewers to see her in the new time period.” Silva added, “I am excited to officially welcome Fatima to our newsroom as part of our anchor team. Her passion for journalism and issues affecting the undocumented community will be a great service to our viewers and a valuable resource to our effort Apoyando Nuestra Communidad — Supporting Our Community.”

Cervantes joins news co-anchor Cesar Bayona and weather anchor Guillermo Quiroz to deliver local breaking news, information and resources every evening at 5, 6, and 11 PM. She first joined Telemundo 48 in April of 2018 as the station’s midday news anchor and producer. She is a seventeen-time Emmy® award winner in categories such as investigative reporting and journalistic enterprise.

Navarrete joins weather anchor David Gonzalez and sports anchors Carlos Mauricio Ramirez & Carlos Yustis to deliver the Bay Area’s only local Spanish language newscast on Saturdays, plus the station’s Sunday newscasts every weekend at 6 and 11 PM. Prior to that she served as a multimedia reporter for KABE, Univision Bakersfield.

Navarrete, a native of El Salvador, has reported on a range of issues affecting the Hispanic community including the use of marijuana among pregnant women, organ transplantation among undocumented patients, a shortage of doctors in rural communities, and the environmental effects of fracking in low-income communities.
