FORT LEE, NJ – (October 28, 2019) – In service to the Tri-State’s Spanish-speaking communities, Telemundo 47 / WNJU announced their 19th annual Rompe el Silencio (Break the Silence) Domestic Violence Awareness Month phone bank, scheduled for Wednesday, October 30 and Thursday, October 31. Viewers can call 1-800-909-0047 and secure confidential assistance on both days between the hours of 5 PM and 7 PM.

“Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure in their relationships. We know that domestic violence often manifests itself in many different ways and this is why Telemundo 47’s Rompe el Silencio phone bank is so important,” said Endy Rodríguez, Vice President of News for Telemundo 47. “In service to our viewers and their families, we are bringing experts and community leaders together to deliver free, confidential assistance regardless of immigration status. Through our 19th annual phone bank, we look forward to again bringing comfort and assistance to those in need.”

Several local community and non-profit organization are confirmed for this important effort. These include representatives from Safe Horizon, Levántate Mujer, Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation, New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center, Dominican Women’s Development Center, New York Police Department (NYPD) and La Casa De Don Pedro, Inc.

Domestic violence can affect the entire family and does not discriminate based on race, income, geography or language. Additionally, domestic violence does not discriminate based on gender, with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting that one in four adult men will be a victim of domestic violence within their lifetimes. Rompe el Silencio is designed to provide this and other important information to viewers with questions or concerns. The information will be free and confidential.
