MIAMI – April 23, 2019 – After eight years, La Reina del Sur starring Kate del Castillo as Teresa Mendoza returned with a vengeance to Telemundo on Monday night ranking as the #1 broadcast television show in America at 10pm among adults 18-49 averaging 1.26M viewers - more than double Univision’s audience and outperforming CBS’ Bull and ABC’s The Fix, according to Nielsen. The much-anticipated premiere delivered 2.36M total viewers and reached a cumulative audience of 1.59M adults 18-49 and nearly 3 million total viewers. Fueled by La Reina del Sur premiere, Telemundo out delivered the combined viewership of Univision and UniMás by 26% in primetime among adults 18-49. In addition, La Reina del Sur was the # 1 broadcast television program regardless of language among adults 18-34 (495K) in overall primetime.

Locally, the hit Super Series™ ranked as the #1 program regardless of language among top Hispanic DMAs including New York, Miami, Houston and Dallas among adults 18-49.

The network’s most ambitious series in history also dominated social and was the most social drama series regardless of language on its premiere night. La Reina del Sur Season Two generated 584K actions across social platforms (Facebook, Instagram & Twitter) and 707K native views on Facebook. And a day after its premiere, audiences are still rushing to catch up with the first episode on and the Telemundo App which is trending on the US iTunes App Store.

Shot on location in eight countries, the return of La Reina del Sur is set eight years since powerful drug trafficker Teresa Mendoza disappeared into the U.S. Federal Witness Protection Program after bringing down Mexican presidential candidate Epifanio Vargas. Hers is now a life of total anonymity in Italy as “Maria Dantes,” peacefully raising her daughter Sofia in the Tuscan village of Massa Marittima. However, her life takes an unexpected turn, and she will do the impossible to reclaim her throne as La Reina del Sur.
