MIAMI – Nov. 27, 2018 – Telemundo officially announced the start of production at Telemundo Center of its newest original production, “Betty en NY.” The iconic role of “Betty” is being portrayed by rising star Elyfer Torres, leading an ensemble of talent in a narrative that reintroduces the beloved character in a decidedly modern way. Co-starring with Torres is a stylish ensemble of Latin American film and television stars including Erick Elías, Sabrina Seara and Aaron Diaz with a special participation from César Bono, Saúl Lizaso, Héctor Suárez Gomís, Alma Delfina and Jeimy Osorio. In addition, “Betty en NY” is the first scripted series to be filmed at Telemundo Center, the company’s recently inaugurated state-of-the-art studio facility located in Miami, Florida.

“With ‘Betty en NY,’ Telemundo continues to build upon its commitment to create original content for the rapidly growing U.S. Spanish-speaking and mainstream television audiences around the world,” said Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Global Studios. “Crafting a new way to tell an entertaining story for the whole family like Betty’s was an exciting challenge as the world has changed much since her debut. The best part about bringing this character back is that Betty remains a role model that never goes out of style."

One of the most influential stories in global broadcast history, and a very timely one, family-friendly “Betty en NY” reimagines "Yo Soy Betty, la fea" for a new generation of viewers. The series chronicles the life of Beatriz Aurora Rincon Lozano (Torres), an intelligent and skilled young Latina living her dream in New York City. After six months of being rejected for multiple jobs due to her lack of attractiveness, Betty makes the fateful decision to accept a position below her qualifications. Landing a job at stylish V&M Fashion, she becomes the secretary to the company's president. Often ridiculed and humiliated for her lack of fashion sense, Betty is determined to stand model tall in this war of appearances. It may be the fashion business, and Betty has designs on how to grow as a person. Still, none of her degrees may help her with the biggest challenge of all: true love.

Orbiting the world of Beatriz “Betty” Aurora Rincon Lozano will be iconic characters brought to life by a stellar cast including Erick Elías as Armando Mendoza; Sabrina Seara as Marcela Valencia; Mauricio Garza as Nicolas Ramos; the return to U.S. Hispanic television of Aaron Diaz as Ricardo Calderon and Saúl Lizaso as Roberto Mendoza; and Hector Suarez and Sylvia Sáenz as the infamous Hugo Lombardi and Patricia Fernandez. The beloved group of secretaries at V&M Fashion who take Betty in as one of their own, known as “El Pelotón,” will be portrayed by Jeimy Osorio (“Mariana”), Sheyla Tadeo (“Bertha”), Isabel Moreno (“Inesita”), Amaranta Ruiz (“Sofia”), Valeria Vera (“Sandra”) and Daniela Tapia (“Aura Maria”).

A Telemundo Global Studios production, “Betty en NY” is directed by Gustavo Loza, Fez Noriega and Luis Manzo with Miguel Varoni as executive producer, Ricardo Coeto as creative consultant and a script adaptation by Valentina Parraga, Sandra Velasco and Alejandro Vergara. Created by Fernando Gaitán, the original Colombian telenovela “Yo Soy Betty, la Fea” inspired several versions around the world, including Germany, The Netherlands, Russia, India, Turkey, Greece, Spain and Brazil. “Ugly Betty,” the award-winning U.S. version starring America Ferrera, ran for four seasons on network television.

The production also includes the participation of Mauricio Henao, Gloria Peralta, Pepe Suárez, Verónica Schneider, Rodolfo Salas, Freddy Flórez, Candela Márquez, Daniela Tapia, Jaime Aymerich, Polo Monárrez, Rykardo Hernández, Paloma Márquez and Jimmie Bernal, among others.
