SETTING A NEW RECORD, MORE THAN 12,000 TRI-STATE PETS FIND NEW HOMES THROUGH NBC 4 NEW YORK AND TELEMUNDO 47’S FIFTH ANNUAL CLEAR THE SHELTERS™ PET ADOPTION DRIVE

NEW YORK, NY – (August 19, 2019) – More than 12,000 local pets were adopted during NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47’s fifth annual Clear the Shelters™ pet adoption drive, which culminated with a one day call-to-action this past Saturday, August 17. Across the country, over 100,000 pets - and counting - were adopted during the fifth annual pet adoption campaign.

“We are thrilled at the continued growth and success of WNBC’s Clear the Shelters campaign. More animal shelters and pet rescues participated this year than ever before, and we also set an all-time high for adoptions, with 12,458 homeless pets connected with forever homes across our region. We thank our viewers for coming out and joining this important effort,” said Eric Lerner, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York.

Since launching in 2015, animal shelter and pet rescue participation in NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47’s Tri-State Clear the Shelters campaign has rapidly grown.

  • 2015: 42 participating shelters/rescues, generating 1,048 pet adoptions
  • 2016: 54 participating shelters/rescues, generating 1,247 pet adoptions
  • 2017: 94 participating shelters/rescues, generating 4,515 pet adoptions
  • 2018: 118 participating shelters/rescues, generating 9,366 pet adoptions
  • 2019: 134 participating shelters/rescues, generating 12,458 pet adoptions

“The success of this year’s Desocupar Los Albergues campaign is truly remarkable. Our Telemundo 47 viewers heard our call and selflessly opened their homes to thousands of homeless pets in need.
