Pope Francis speaks directly with victims of the recent natural disasters in the Americas in a forum organized by the Vatican’s Scholas Occurentes Foundation and shares a message with immigrants in the United States in this historic forum spanning five countries, presented in a special edition of “Enfoque con José Díaz-Balart”

MIAMI – November 2, 2017 – Noticias Telemundo’s “Enfoque con José Díaz-Balart” presents “El papa con los latinos en la Red mundial de Scholas,” an international forum with His Holiness Pope Francis, this Sunday, November 5 at 5 p.m./4 p.m. C. Moderated by Noticias Telemundo Senior Correspondent Vanessa Hauc at the headquarters of the Scholas Occurrentes Foundation at the Vatican, this unprecedented forum establishes a direct line of communication between the Pope and children and young people in Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United States, Argentina and Paraguay, as well as a group of women detainees in the Mexican state of Morelos.

“With this exclusive program, Noticias Telemundo is establishing a direct channel of communication between Pope Francis and young Latinos in the Scholas network,” said Luis Fernández, Executive Vice President of Noticias Telemundo. “The Western Hemisphere has been rocked by a series of unprecedented natural disasters in recent months, and in this forum the Pope speaks with children and young people who have been affected by these catastrophes. He also sends a special message to our audience, the immigrants and Dreamers in the United States.”

In “El papa con los latinos en la Red mundial de Scholas,” the Pope connects directly with children at the “Niños Héroes” Shelter in the municipality of Jojutla, Morelos, an area hard hit by the recent earthquake in Mexico. Also in Morelos, a group of female prisoners at Social Readaptation Center Number 13 send a message to the Pontiff and listen live to his response. In Puerto Rico, young victims of Hurricane Maria pose their questions to the Pope, while at the Telemundo studios in Houston, Texas, youths affected by Hurricane Harvey have the opportunity to tell him about their experiences. Pope Francis also takes advantage of the forum to inaugurate three new Scholas Occurrentes centers in Latin America.

“El papa con los latinos en la Red mundial de Scholas” is part of a series of Noticias Telemundo specials presented under the banner “Las cosas como son” (Telling It Like It Is), designed to empower US Latinos by providing them with objective and relevant information about issues that have an actual impact on their lives.

In June 2016, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises signed an agreement with Scholas Occurrentes, Pope Francis’s global foundation to educate, inspire and connect young people around the world through technology, the arts and sports. As a result of the agreement, the network broadcast the second “Unidos por la paz” (United for Peace) soccer game, featuring such legendary players as Diego Armando Maradona, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Rafa Márquez, Hernán Crespo, Ronaldinho, Cafú, and former Mexican striker and Telemundo Deportes commentator Carlos Hermosillo, in October 2016.
