Latino voters in CA, TX, NV: They will likely decide the fate of Democratic candidates’ campaigns during February caucuses/March 2020 primaries

In CA: Latino Democrats currently back Biden (21%), Sanders (19%) and Warren (9%) with 33% undecided; Among all Latino voters, 67% would replace Trump; 59% support impeachment; 84% support DACA extension

In TX: Latino Democrats back Biden (33%), Warren (16%), Sanders (11%), with 31% undecided; Among all Latino voters 66% would vote Trump out of office; 52% support impeachment; 77% support DACA extension

In Clark County, NV: Latino Democrats back Biden (23%), Sanders (18%), Warren (7%) with 42% undecided; Among all Latino voters 68% would replace Trump; 58% support impeachment; 84% support DACA extension

MIRAMAR, FL – November 15, 2019 – On the heels of announcing a new study that affirms that Spanish-language political TV advertising can greatly increase Latino voter turnout, and as Democratic presidential candidates prepare to face off on November 20 in Georgia in a debate hosted by MSNBC and The Washington Post, the Telemundo Station Group today unveiled their newest round of exclusive Latino Voter Opinion Polls for California, Texas and Clark County, NV* – individual surveys of 625 registered Latino voters in each jurisdiction. The polls were conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy, Inc. Latino voters in these states are likely to decide the outcome of candidates’ presidential aspirations during Nevada’s February 2020 caucus, and the March 2020 primaries in California and Texas. The Telemundo Station Group’s November 2019 polls follow the stations’ June 2019 opinion polls about California and Texas Latino voters.

Key findings for Telemundo stations’ November 2019 polls include:

Democratic Candidates and President Trump

• Donald Trump’s weakness among Latino voters in California and Texas continues to decline (Telemundo stations’ June 2019 polls vs. November 2019 polls).
• In all three November 2019 polls, over 70% of Latina voters currently say that they will vote to replace Trump with a Democrat in 2020, as do over 70% of all Latino voters under the age of 50.
• Among Hispanic Democrats, Joe Biden still seems like the most comfortable choice.
• While Biden outperforms Elizabeth Warren in all three polls, Warren is the only female candidate that breaks into the Top 3 rank.
• As the sole Latino presidential candidate, Julian Castro has been unable to build a significant base in the Latino community, and has single-digit support among Latinos in his home state of Texas.
• In California, Kamala Harris is not gaining much traction with Hispanic Democrats in her home state.

California Poll

• Statewide, 64% of Latino voters disapprove of Trump’s performance in office.
• Disapproval is significantly high among women (69%), those younger than 50 (66%), and independents (46%).
• The three most important issues of concern among California Latinos are the economy and jobs (29%), immigration (14%), and impeachment/removing Trump from office (13%).

Texas Poll

• Statewide, 67% of Latino voters disapprove of Trump’s performance in office.
• Disapproval is significantly high among women (73%), those younger than 50 (75%), and independents (56%).
• The two most important issues of concern among Texas Latino voters are the “pocketbook issues” of healthcare (24%) and the economy (13%). They are followed by gun rights/gun control at 13%, and the Impeachment/removal of Trump from office at 12%.

Clark County, NV Poll

• County-wide, 67% of Latino voters disapprove of Trump’s performance in office.
• Disapproval is significantly high among women (71%), those younger than 50 (73%), and independents (56%).
• The three most important issues for Latino voters in Clark County are the economy and jobs (35%), impeachment/removing Trump from office (15%), and immigration (14%).
