NBC BAY AREA AND TELEMUNDO 48 AREA DE LA BAHÍA HONORED WITH 20 NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA EMMY® AWARDS

SAN JOSE, CA – (June 10, 2019) – The Northern California Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded NBC Bay Area / KNTV and Telemundo 48 Area de la Bahía / KSTS a total of 20 Northern California Emmy® Awards during the 48th annual Awards Gala held on Saturday, June 8 at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco.

NBC Bay Area led the English-language stations with a total of ten Emmy® Awards across various categories. The station’s dedicated investigative team, The Investigative Unit, received four awards for various investigative reports including for its investigation “Diseased Streets” which exposed a dangerous mix of trash, needles, and feces along San Francisco streets and sidewalks. KNTV’s Bay Area Proud Series focused on local stories of success, inspiration and kindness, received two awards for writing and video journalism.

Telemundo 48 received ten Emmy® Awards, including the award for best daytime newscast for the stations midday newscast “Noticiero Telemundo 48 al Mediodía.” The station also received an award for its breaking news coverage of the hostage situation at a veteran’s home in Yountville, California in March of 2018, where a former patient at the facility shot and killed three women before taking his own life. KSTS also received an award for its joint investigation with KNTV “Doble Condena” about the rise of sexual assaults against women behind bars.
