Stations in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio took home top honors across several categories including “Overall Excellence,” “News Excellence,” “Morning” and “Weekend Newscasts” and Single and Series “Investigative Report”
NEW YORK, NY – (November 14, 2017) – The Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth / KXAS, Telemundo 39 Dallas-Fort Worth / KXTX, Telemundo Houston / KTMD, Telemundo 60 San Antonio / KVDA and Telemundo 40 Rio Grande Valley / KTLM a combined total of 61 Lone Star Emmy® Awards during the 15th annual awards gala held on Friday, November 11 in San Antonio, Texas.
NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 were both awarded a Lone Star Emmy® in the “Community Service” category in recognition of their collaborative work on Clear the Shelters, an annual pet adoption campaign that launched in the market three years ago and has resulted in more than 150,000 pet adoptions since the effort was expanded nationally in 2015. NBC 5 won an additional 19 awards across various categories, including Morning and Weekend Newscasts and “Investigative Report – Single Story” category for their report “Big Buses, Bigger Problems: The Land Deal.” Telemundo 39 also won an additional 16 awards including the top honor of “News Excellence” for the third consecutive year. Telemundo Houston took home 13 awards including the coveted “Overall Excellence” award, as well as wins in the “Investigative Report - Single Story” category for “Sin Luz Propia” and the “Investigative Report - Series” category for “En La Mira.” Telemundo 60 won four awards including an honor in the “Video Journalist” category for Jairo Lozano’s story “Flying Solo on Air.” In addition, Telemundo 40 took home eight awards including the “Community Service” award in recognition of the station’s student financial aid initiative “El Poder En Ti, Ayuda Financiera.”
