Over 100 Tri-State animal shelter and rescue locations will offer adoption incentives on August 17

NEW YORK, NY – (July 29, 2019) – NBC 4 New York/WNBC and Telemundo 47/WNJU announced the return of their popular pet adoption campaign Clear the Shelters™. Culminating with Clear the Shelters day on Saturday, August 17, the stations’ fifth annual pet adoption drive will be held at more than 100 animal shelters and rescue locations across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

“Our Clear the Shelters campaign has connected more than 16,000 pets with forever homes throughout the Tri-State region. This is the time of year when our shelters and rescues need our help the most, and our WNBC team is ready to get to work. We love connecting homeless animals with loving families,” said Eric Lerner, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York.

On August 17, all participating animal shelters and rescues will a variety of incentives to adopt a new pet. These can include low cost or waived pet adoption fees. Visit to access the most up-to-date list of participating shelters and rescues near you. Additionally, local shelters and rescues interested in joining the adoption drive can also register on the website.

NBC 4 New York/WNBC and Telemundo 47/WNJU will host their popular pet adoption drive, Clear the Shelters in partnership with local animal shelters/rescues. Organizations will waive or reduce pet adoption fees.
