SAN JOSE, CA – (August 21, 2019) – More than 4,000 pets were adopted in the Bay Area during NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48’s fifth annual Clear The Shelters™ pet adoption drive. The campaign launched in July and culminated on Saturday, August 17. Across the country, more than 125,000 pets - and counting - found new homes.
“The growing success of the Clear The Shelters campaign each year is truly remarkable. A record number of 90 local animal shelters and pet rescues participated this year, and we also set a new record for adoptions,” said Stacy Owen, President and General Manager of NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48. “We thank the families who opened their homes to the thousands of pets in need, making this year’s Clear The Shelters campaign a huge success.”
In Berkeley, the annual Bark (and Meow) Around the Block event joined forces with Clear The Shelters for the Bay Area's biggest adopt-a-thon and street fair of the year where 100 pets found forever homes. In San Jose a couple looking for a Chihuahua fell in love with Felix the Pitbull instead, and couldn’t help but take him home.
