Beats Competition Across the Board by Double Digits in April
Wins Sunday Across the Board; #1 in Key Demo for 64th Straight Broadcast
April 30, 2019 – Meet the Press with Chuck Todd (MTP) was the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board for the month of April and this past Sunday, April 28, according to Nielsen Media Research.
3.311 million total viewers tuned into MTP in April and the Sunday program topped both ABC and CBS by double-digits: +23 percent (+628,000) more than ABC’s This Week and +13 percent (+381,000) more than CBS’ Face the Nation. April marks the 23rd straight month MTP has beaten ABC and the 17th straight month MTP has beaten CBS in total viewers. Compared to last year, MTP has increased its lead over both ABC (+293,000) and CBS (+37,000).
MTP continues to dominate the demo most valued by news advertisers, winning its 19th consecutive month among A24-54 viewers. 799,000 key demo viewers tuned in for the month of April, as MTP outperformed its competition by double-digits: +30 percent (+184,000) more than ABC and +26 percent (+167,000) more than CBS. April marks the 19th straight month that MTP has beaten ABC and the 39th straight month MTP has beaten CBS in the key demo. Compared to last year, MTP increased its advantage over ABC by +92,000.
MTP was also the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board this past Sunday, April 28, marking the show’s 11th straight win in total viewers and 64th straight win in the A25-54 key demo.
Sunday’s broadcast was guest moderated by NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell and featured exclusive interviews with Sally Yates, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Sen. Ron Johnson.
3.212 million total viewers tuned into the Sunday program. MTP led CBS’ Face the Nation by double digits: +17 percent (+461,000), marking the broadcast’s 19th win over CBS out of the last 20 broadcasts.
MTP also won in the demo most valued by news advertisers for its 64th straight broadcast, again topping CBS by double-digits. 764,000 A25-54 demo viewers tuned into the Sunday program: +37 percent (+208,000) more than CBS. This streak is longer than any other achieved in the Sunday Public Affairs category in the history of modern Nielsen ratings (since 1987).
Season-to-date, MTP is the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board, delivering its best total viewer lead over ABC in seven years and CBS in eight years.
MTP continues to dominate the influential Washington, D.C. market, outperforming its aired competition combined across the board and winning every Sunday with total viewers for more than four straight years (since March 22, 2015).
An additional 756,000 total viewers and 168,000 A25-54 viewers watched the Sunday program through rebroadcasts on NBC and MSNBC.
