#1 in Total Viewers for Third Consecutive May Sweep; #1 in Key Demo for Fifth Straight May Sweep
Wins Sunday in Key Demo; #1 for 12th Consecutive Week
May 19, 2020 – Meet the Press with Chuck Todd (MTP) was the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board for the May sweep, according to Nielsen Media Research.
An average of 3.909 million total viewers tuned into the broadcast during the May sweep: +30 percent (+905,000) more than ABC’s This Week and two percent (+60,000) more than CBS’s Face the Nation. This was MTP’s best total viewer sweep delivery in over two years (since February 2018 sweep). In total viewers, this marked MTP’s third consecutive sweep win and third straight May sweep win. This was also MTP’s best total viewer advantage over ABC in nine years (since May 2011 sweep). Compared to last year, MTP was up +27 percent (+840,000) in total viewers.
An average of 883,000 A25-54 demo viewers tuned into MTP during the May sweep, topping both ABC and CBS by double-digits: +38 percent (+242,000) more than ABC and +12 percent (+95,000) more than CBS. This was MTP’s best sweep delivery in the key demo in over a year (since February 2019 sweep). In the demo most valued by news advertisers, this marked MTP’s third consecutive sweep win and fifth straight May sweep win. This was MTP’s best key demo advantage over ABC in over two years (since February 2018 sweep). Compared to last year, MTP was up +22 percent (+159,000).
MTP was the #1 most-watched Sunday show in the key demo this past Sunday, May 17, according to Nielsen Media Research. Season-to-date, MTP is the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board.
Sunday’s broadcast featured interviews with Peter Navarro, Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy and policy coordinator for the National Defense Production Act, Dr. Tom Inglesby, Director of the Center for Health Security of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and NBC News National Security Analyst Clint Watts.
MTP was #1 in the demo most valued by news advertisers for its 12th consecutive week. 832,000 A25-54 key demo viewers tuned into the Sunday program: +41 percent (+241,000) more than ABC’s This Week and seven percent (+58,000) more than CBS’ Face the Nation. Compared to last week, MTP was up five percent (+36,000) and compared to the same Sunday last year, MTP grew by +17 percent (+121,000) and increased its A25-54 viewer advantage over ABC by +66 percent.
MTP averaged 3.625 million total viewers, topping ABC by +25 percent (+718,000). Compared to the same Sunday last year, MTP was up +24 percent (+702,000) and increased its total viewer advantage over ABC by +33 percent.
An additional 815,000 total viewers and 168,000 A25-54 viewers watched the Sunday program through rebroadcasts on NBC and MSNBC.
MTP continues to dominate the influential Washington, D.C. market, beating the competition combined among total viewers and winning every Sunday with total viewers in over five years (since March 22, 2015).
