Make-A-Wish® Needs Mileage Donations to Fulfill Wish Kids Travel
OAKLAND (June 17, 2019) – Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area is teaming up NBC Bay Area / KNTV, Telemundo 48 Área de la Bahía / KSTS, NBC Sports Bay Area, NBC Sports California, Comcast and Comcast Spotlight for a one-day “Wish-A-Thon for Miles,” on Tuesday, June 25. The event aims to raise 5 million or more of the 44 million airline miles needed annually in the Greater Bay Area to be able to send children with critical illnesses on wish trips.
Of the almost 400 wishes granted by Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area last year, nearly 80 percent included air travel for families.
“Donating unused airline miles is an easy way for supporters to help us grant children’s wishes and give them an experience that improves the quality of life for them and their families,” said Betsy Biern, CEO of Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area. “We are thankful for our partnership with Comcast and our local NBC and Telemundo stations, and NBC Sports. Without the support of local partners and generous donors, we would be unable to continue to grant the wishes of Bay Area kids.”
Donating air miles through the Make-A-Wish Wishes in Flight program is easy – and once the miles are donated to Make-A-Wish, they never expire. Every traveler with airline miles can be part of a life-affirming wish; all it takes is a simple donation of air miles with one of our major airline partners: Delta, United, Alaska Jet Blue, Southwest and American Airlines.
Ways to donate during the “Wish-A-Thon for Miles” on June 25:
“The Make-A-Wish Foundation does phenomenal work and we’re happy to join with our Comcast and NBC Sports family for this united effort to give people an easy way to help these inspirational families,” said Stacy Owen, President and General Manager of NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48. “We hope our viewers tune in, donate some of their miles, and help meet our goal of raising 5 million miles to help wish kids take flight!”
NBC Bay Area (Comcast channel 3 and 703 and over-the-air on 11) and Telemundo 48 (Comcast channel 18 and 718 and over-the-air on 48) will air live updates of the fundraiser throughout the day on Tuesday, June 25. About Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area
Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. In 2019 Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area celebrates 35 years fulfilling magical wishes. Research shows children who have wishes granted build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. This improves their quality of life and produces better health outcomes. Yet not every child in our territory who is eligible for a wish receives one. With your help, we can change that.
