First launched in April 2016, Telemundo Responde answers questions from local consumers who fear they may have been wronged and provides them the answers they need

PHOENIX, AZ – (January 3, 2017) – Telemundo Phoenix / KTAZ today announced that Diego Santiago is the new Consumer Investigative Reporter and Producer for the station’s wildly popular consumer investigative unit Telemundo Responde (Telemundo Responds). Telemundo Responde helps consumers who feel they may have been wronged by investigating their concerns and providing them with answers. Consumers who were victims of scams or not received funds owed to them are some of the consumer issues that Telemundo Responde has helped to address. Santiago will make his on-air debut on Monday, January 16 on Telemundo Phoenix’s weekday newscast, Noticiero Telemundo Arizona which airs at 4 PM, 4:30 PM, 5 PM and 10 PM.

“Diego’s determination to deliver facts to concerned consumers will help our viewers find resolution with problems that once seemed impossible to fix,” said Araceli De Leon, President and General Manager, Telemundo Phoenix and Telemundo Tucson. “Diego will ask the tough questions and do the legwork on behalf of consumers and provide them with the answers that they need.”

Santiago has been part of the Telemundo Phoenix family for the past three years before being promoted to his new role. He worked as a Multimedia Journalist and as a Sports anchor for Telemundo Phoenix. Previously, he worked for Univision Costa Central (Central Coast) and at Univision Las Vegas as an anchor and producer. Santiago received a bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a minor in Spanish Journalism from California State University, Northridge.

"Consumers know that Telemundo Responde is a resource they can depend on to put their minds at ease, knowing that their issue will not be ignored or placed to the wayside,” added Santiago. “I am honored to be a part of this unit and I look forward to providing our community with solutions when they feel they have nowhere else to turn.”

Launched in 2014, the Telemundo Responde units have collectively recovered more than $5 million for consumers in 13 markets, including Phoenix. Examples of how Telemundo Phoenix’s local Telemundo Responde team has helped consumers include:

  • A resident of Mesa ordered an air conditioning unit and received the incorrect model. After returning the unit to the company, the consumer was promised a refund for the total cost of the unit. Several weeks later, the consumer had still not received his refund and placed a complaint with the company. After six weeks of unsuccessful attempts to get the money back, the viewer contacted Telemundo Responde. KTAZ’s consumer investigative team reached out to the company and a few days later, learned the error had been corrected. As a result of Telemundo Responde’s consumer investigative work and advocacy, the viewer received a full refund of nearly $5,000. Click here to watch the report.
  • A local viewer contracted a company through eBay to fix the dashboard of his car. He sent the defective part to the California based company for repair. After paying nearly $200 to have the car part fixed, the viewer never received the repaired car part. The viewer followed up with the company and was told his car part was never received. They reached out to Telemundo Responde for help. The investigative team reached out to the company twice and after the second call, the viewer received his repaired dashboard that same week. As a result of Telemundo Responde’s determination, the viewer received the services he was owed. Click here to watch the report.
