Thomas McCarthy

Senior Vice President & Chief Security Officer


Thomas McCarthy is Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer for NBCUniversal.  McCarthy oversees and manages NBCUniversal’s Global Security functions and organization. McCarthy comes from the United States Secret Service and has vast experience as a senior risk management executive, most recently as Special Agent in Charge of the Vice Presidential Protective Division.

During his 27 years with the Secret Service, McCarthy gained extensive domestic and international experience, working with global leaders, implementing decisive crisis management plans, and overseeing administrative responsibilities, including managing multi-million dollar budgets.

Prior to his most recent role, McCarthy served as Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office. He was responsible for the daily operations of the largest investigative field offices of the U.S. Secret Service, with over 300 personnel and oversight of a $30 million budget. He provided direct senior leadership and responsibility for field operations and crisis management planning for National Special Security Events (NSSE), including the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, the State of the Union Address to Joint Sessions of Congress (2008-2010), the Presidential Nuclear Summit (2010) and the G-20 Summit and daily Presidential and Vice Presidential movements in Washington, DC.

McCarthy earned his Bachelors of Science degree in political science from Providence College. He will be relocating to the New York City area from Washington with his wife and four children.
