Bryan Mu is Senior Vice President, Content and Cultural Insights, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and Studios. In this role, Mu serves as the key research and analytics executive responsible for seeking out and implementing innovative research tools and methodologies to aid content development across NBCUniversal’s Cable Entertainment content portfolio (USA Network, SYFY, Oxygen, E! and Bravo). He also oversees research for Universal Content Productions (UCP). Mu reports to Liz Mahaffey, Executive Vice President of Research and Brand Strategy.
Mu is focused on leveraging a variety of data sources to provide quantitative and qualitative research perspectives that help best position NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment brands and content to a rapidly evolving audience. He identifies and maximizes opportunities to increase audience share and to remain competitively positioned in the television and digital landscape. He has been a key contributor to current series including USA’s Golden Globe® and Emmy®-winning ‘Mr. Robot” and the Golden Globe-nominated #1 new cable series of 2017, “The Sinner,” “Happy!” and “The Magicians” on SYFY; “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” on Bravo; and the upcoming Universal Content Productions series “Homecoming” for Amazon and “The Umbrella Academy” for Netflix.
Prior to joining NBCUniversal, Mu was Vice President, Cable Research for Sony Pictures Television. He consulted executive producers on ratings performance, competitive positioning and scheduling activity for cable series such as “Breaking Bad,” “Damages” and “Seinfeld.” Mu graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Master’s degree in Business Administration and from Pitzer College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.
