Women’s Uneven Bars: Russia’s Aliya Mustafina wins the gold, while Gabby Douglas fails to medal
Andrea Joyce interviewing Gabby Douglas: “What was it like to go last?’
Gabby Douglas: “Going last was tough. Hard to get prepared. You have to re-warm-up and warm up. I am so happy just to make the finals in bars.”
Andrea Joyce: “You are the ‘It Girl’ now. How much has it been a distraction?”
Gabby Douglas: “It hasn’t been a distraction. We have stayed in the village and there has been no media there.”
Andrea Joyce: “How are you doing mentally and physically?”
Gabby Douglas: “I have one event left and I am going to be mentally strong for that.”

Men’s 400 Meters: Kirani James of Grenada won gold medal
Ato Boldon: “Not only does Kirani James win the first ever medal for Grenada, and it is gold, he just became the first non-American to ever break 44 seconds (43.94) in the 400 meters. The spice Island will celebrate huge tonight because Kirani is king.”

Women’s Soccer: USA defeats Canada 4-3
Brandi Chastain: “This USA team has something. That is what Amy Wambach talked about; a winning attitude, a drive to win. It was incredible how they stayed within the game plan. They didn’t falter even when they went down three times. You could see it in their eyes. They believed they could do it. At the end of the game, you look to players like Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan (game-winning goal in the 122nd minute) to seal the victory and that is exactly what has happened.”
Men’s Basketball: USA defats Argentina 126-97
Doc Rivers on the halftime score (USA 60-Argentina 59): “The one thing the USA is going to hang its hat on is defense going into the Olympics. Argentina has 59 points at halftime.”
Doug Collins after USA outscored Argentina 42-17 in the 3rd quarter: “Defense, the calling card, is back.”
