SWIMMING
Bob Costas interview with Michael Phelps after his final race.
Bob Costas: “You kept saying prior to these games that you and Bob Bowman, your coach, had your goals here, but you wouldn’t reveal what they were. You leave with four more golds and two silvers out of seven events; did you reach your goals?”
Michael Phelps: “I can look back on my career and hang up my suit and say I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do. And that is the only thing I’ve wanted to say when I retire.”
Bob Costas: “Regret is one of the worst human emotions. No matter how successful people may be, most of us have regrets. If this is really the end of your athletic career, you’re a rarity, no regrets?”
Michael Phelps: “No, I’ve done everything I’ve ever put my mind to. I’ve prepared for everything that has happened in my life. I said this to Bob when I was in the warm up pool today. I get into the warm up pool and no one else is in there. I said ‘someone I’ve always looked up to in my sport career is Michael Jordan. He became the greatest basketball player of all time. And I can look back on my career and I’m able to say that.’ I said to Bob, ‘I wouldn’t be here today without everything you’ve helped me do.’”
Men's 4x100m Medley Relay
“The final tally is absolutely mind boggling. 18 gold medals, two silver, two bronze, 22 in all, and twice as many as the next best male U.S. Olympian, as he goes out.”
-Dan Hicks on Michael Phelps
“All you can do is say thank you. Thank you for 12 years of incredible moments.”
-Rowdy Gaines on Michael Phelps
Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay

-Dan Hicks on USA’s world record relay team of Missy Franklin (backstroke), Rebecca Soni (breaststroke), Dana Vollmer (butterfly) and Allison Schmitt (freestyle).
Women’s 50M Freestyle

-Rowdy Gaines on Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Marleen Veldhuis
Track and Field

U.S. Men’s Basketball vs. Lithuania
“This game came at the right time. I think everybody thought that the United States would have three walkover games before they saw Argentina. That was not the case tonight. Lithuania put it all on the line and played very, very well.”
-Bob Fitzgerald, on the U.S. Men’s basketball team’s 99-94 win against Lithuania
Women’s Tennis
“I think calling Serena number four in the world at this point is strictly a numerical computer distinction, not reality.”
-Brett Haber, on Serena Williams, who demolished Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-1 to take the gold

Boxing
Fred Roggin interview with NBC Commentator Laila Ali
Roggin: “What are the major differences between men and women’s boxing?”
Ali: “The major difference in men’s and women’s boxing is professional women fight 10 championship rounds as opposed to 12, and we fight two-minute rounds, which is another thing that makes no sense. Two minutes is not enough to put the beat down on somebody, I have to say. I need three minutes, three minutes, not two.”
