PGA Tour
Each year NBC tees off its golf coverage with the PGA Tour's "Southern Swing," which begins with the WGC-CA Championship from the Doral Golf Resort in Miami on the first weekend in March. From there, back-to-back stops at the Honda Classic and the Bay Hill Invitational lead into one of the richest and most demanding tournaments of the year: The Players Championship, which is held at the famous TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. TPC Sawgrass is home of the vexing 17th "island green" hole, which regularly injects a dose of drama into The Players Championship.
The Players has earned unofficial designation as golf's "fifth major." The field of competitors validates that claim, as virtually all of the world's top 50 players participate for the PGA Tour's richest purse. NBC's PGA Tour coverage concludes on the first weekend of April with the BellSouth Classic in Duluth, Ga.
NBC Sports' Emmy Award-winning golf production team is led on-air by host Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller, acknowledged as television's top golf analyst. Hicks and Miller are joined by tower reporters Gary Koch and Bob Murphy; on-course reporters Roger Maltbie, Mark Rolfing and Dottie Pepper. Interviewer/essayist Jimmy Roberts completes the NBC golf announce team.
