TELEMUNDO’S JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART HONORED WITH THE AMERICAN IMMIGRATION LAWYERS ASSOCIATION 2012 MEDIA LEADERSHIP AWARD |

Miami - June 15, 2012 - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) awarded José Díaz-Balart -“Noticiero Telemundo” News Anchor and Sunday current-affairs program “Enfoque” host- with its 2012 Media Leadership Award in recognition of his efforts to accurately depict immigration and immigrants in his work. Díaz-Balart received the award yesterday during AILA’s Annual Conference in Nashville, TN.
José Díaz-Balart is one of the most respected and experienced voices in U.S. Hispanic journalism. “Enfoque” is the only Spanish-language program focused on topics of interest to the Hispanic community produced from Washington D.C. Díaz-Balart started his career in 1984 and since then has witnessed and reported history first-hand for trusted media organizations including CBS News, MSNBC and Telemundo. He is the first and only U.S. journalist to have anchored both English and Spanish-language newscasts on two national networks for a whole week. His work has been recognized with numerous accolades including two Emmy® Awards, a George Foster Peabody Award, an Alfred I DuPont-Columbia University Award and now the 2012 AILA Media Leadership Award.
Past recipients of the AILA Media Leadership Award include CNN Producer Kiran Kahlid (2011) and Washington Post reporter Spencer Hsu (2010).
