TELEMUNDO STATION GROUP APPOINTS ANTONIO CANALES TO PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER OF KTMD HOUSTON |

MIAMI – JULY 13, 2011 – Telemundo Media announced today that Antonio Canales has been named President and General Manager of KTMD Houston. The announcement was made by Manuel Abud, President, Telemundo Station Group, to whom Canales will report. Canales replaces Roel Medina and will start on Monday, July 16.
In his new role, Canales will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of KTMD-TV. He will direct and manage all aspects of the station operations, including news, sales, promotions, engineering, finance, human resources and community relations. In addition, he will oversee the development and implementation of strategic sales and marketing plans and direct sales forecasting activities and revenue-generating goals to meet specific company goals and profitability.
“Tony’s leadership skills, extensive operational and advertising experience, as well as his deep knowledge and understanding of the U.S. Hispanic audience, will be a tremendous asset to achieve KTMD’s business goals and to better serve our community in Houston,” said Abud. “We want to thank Roel for his dedication and hard work and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”Canales joins KTMD-TV from Azteca America, where he held the post of Vice President and General Manager of the Houston affiliate, KYAZ-TV. During his tenure, Canales more than doubled revenue levels within his first six months and orchestrated the successful re-launch of Azteca Houston in early 2011 by combining both traditional media and grass roots initiatives to drive viewership and advertising revenue. In addition, Canales strategically secured and introduced relevant local programming that provided the station with both a local presence for viewers and secured a competitive advantage among its competitors.
Prior to Azteca America, from 2001-2010, Canales held several executive roles at Univision Communications Inc., where most recently he served as Vice President and General Manager of Univision Communications KWEX-TV and KNIC-TV in San Antonio. From 2006-2009, Canales held the post of General Sales Manager at KWEX-TV and KNIC-TV San Antonio. Prior to moving to San Antonio, Canales lived in Austin, Texas from 2004-2006 and served as the National Sales Manager at KAKW-TV and KBVO-TV.
Before he began his successful career in television, Canales worked at an agency acquired by Global Hue Advertising from 1999-2001, where he was an Accounts Supervisor working on strategies and solutions for industry leaders such as Chrysler and Corona Beer. While at Global Hue, Canales and his team were honored with the Chrysler Gold Award for Excellence for managing an efficient and effective client partnership.
Canales received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Texas A&M University and resides in Houston with his wife and daughter.
