MSNBC IS MOST-WATCHED CABLE NEWS NETWORK DURING DNC COVERAGE
MSNBC Ranks #1 Among Total Viewers in Primetime For Coverage of the DNC
MSNBC Up 49% in P2+ Compared to 2008 DNC
NEW YORK – September 7, 2012 – MSNBC was the most-watched network for coverage of the Democratic National Convention, beating CNN and FOX News Channel in primetime 8-11 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 2 a.m. in total viewers for the three days of coverage. MSNBC is up across the board compared to coverage of the 2008 DNC.
From 8- 11 p.m. ET, MSNBC averaged 3.40 million total viewers, CNN had 3.34 million and FNC had 2.62 million. Compared to the three day average of 2008 (days 2, 3, 4), MSNBC is up 49% in total viewers while CNN is down 25% and FNC is down 18%.
From 7p-2a, MSNBC had 2.51 million total viewers, CNN had 2.38 million and FNC had 1.94 million total viewers. Compared to the three day average of 2008 (days 2,3,4), MSNBC is up 48% while CNN is down 20% and FNC is down 13%.
MSNBC’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention was hosted by Rachel Maddow with Chris Matthews joined by Ed Schultz, Lawrence O’Donnell, Rev. Al Sharpton, Chris Hayes and campaign strategist Steve Schmidt. Contributors included Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd, Melissa Harris-Perry, Former RNC chairman Michael Steele, Washington Post’s Ezra Klein, Huffington Post’s Howard Fineman, and Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson.
