NBC NEWS DRAWS LARGEST TV AUDIENCE ON FIRST NIGHT OF DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION PRIMETIME HOUR ANCHORED BY BRIAN WILLIAMS TOPS BOTH CBS AND ABC BY OVER 1.7 MILLION TOTAL VIEWERS |

CHARLOTTE, NC -- September 5, 2012 -- More Americans turned to NBC News for coverage of the first night of the 2012 Democratic National Convention than any other broadcast or cable television network. Online, NBCNews.com saw over 136,800 live streams of the DNC coverage on Tuesday.
According to Nielsen Media Research data, the NBC News coverage (10p-11:06p) averaged 5.002 million total viewers, +52% (+1.714 million) ahead of CBS’s 3.288 million and +53% (+1.735 million) more than ABC’s 3.267 million. NBC delivered a 3.4/5 household rating, ahead of both CBS and ABC’s 2.3/4. CBS aired coverage from 10p-11:07pm; ABC aired until 11:08pm.In A18-49, NBC averaged a 1.2 rating, beating ABC by +50% (+4 tenths) and CBS by +71% (+5 tenths). In A25-54, NBC averaged a 1.6 rating, +60% (+6 tenths) ahead of ABC and +78% (+7 tenths) more than CBS.
Versus the first night of last week’s Republican National Convention (Tue 8/28), NBC was up +5% (+232,000) in total viewers, +20% (+2 tenths) in rating A18-49 and +7% (+1 tenth) in rating A25-54.
The primetime hour anchored by Brian Williams featured contributions and analysis from NBC’s Tom Brokaw, David Gregory, Chuck Todd, Savannah Guthrie, Andrea Mitchell, and Ron Allen.
