NEW YORK – July 10, 2012 – “NBC Nightly News” was America’s number one newscast for the week ending July 8, 2012, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The NBC broadcast delivered an average of 7.642 million total viewers, +354,000 more than ABC "World News’" 7.288 million, and +1,724,000 more than CBS "Evening News’” 5.918 million.
NOTE: all three evening newscasts were labeled as specials on Wednesday for the Independence Day holiday and are based on a 4-day average. Also: Brian Williams was off the entire week.
As the number one network broadcast last week, “Nightly” delivered a 5.1/11 Household rating, with “World News” in second place with a 4.9/10, and “Evening News” in third with a 3.9/8. “Nightly” has won for 147 consecutive weeks, and in 194 of the past 195 weeks in total viewers. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +994,000 total viewers.
For the week, “Nightly” delivered a 1.8 rating A25-54, ahead of second place “World News’” 1.6 and third place “Evening News’” 1.4. “Nightly” averaged 2.231 million A25-54 (000) viewers last week, +339,000 viewers more than “World News.” This is the 189th consecutive week “Nightly” has topped “World News” in A25-54 (000). Versus its 2Q’12 average, “Nightly” was up in rating W/M25-54 (+5%/+6%) and widened its lead over “World News” in A25-54 (000). Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +353,000 A25-54 viewers.
