NEW YORK – June 21, 2012 – NBC News’ “Today” is the dominant morning news program finishing the week of June 11 in first place. “Today” has been the number one morning program for more than 16 years, and for 858 out of 862 weeks, and has won the past three consecutive weeks. Week-to-week, “Today” posted gains in total viewers, M18-49 and M25-54, while also widening its lead over GMA in M25-54. Compared to 2Q’12-to-date levels, “Today” grew its lead over GMA in A18-49 and W/M25-54 week-to-week. Compared to season-to-date levels, “Today” widened its lead over GMA in M/A18-49. “Today” has been the number one morning show in A25-54 for 894 straight weeks.
Below are the highlights for last week:
- TODAY averaged 4.841 million total viewers, leading Good Morning America by +1% (+35,000) and more than doubling CBS This Morning by +117% (+2,608,000).
- TODAY has been the #1 morning news program in total viewers for three consecutive weeks and 858 of the past 862 weeks.
- In homes, TODAY tied GMA for #1 and topped CBS This Morning by +112%.
- TODAY has now placed first in homes for 862 consecutive weeks.
- In rating A25-54, TODAY outperformed GMA by +13% (+2 tenths) and CBS This Morning by +143% (+1 rating point).
- TODAY has now won 894 straight weeks in rating A25-54.
- In rating A18-49, TODAY beat GMA by +20% (+2 tenths) and CBS This Morning by +140% (+7 tenths).
- TODAY has now won 923 consecutive weeks in rating A18-49.
- Week-to-week, TODAY was up in total viewers (+1%, or +35,000), rating M18-49 (+13%), and rating M25-54 (+18%) and widened its lead over GMA in rating M25-54.
- TODAY gained +8% in rating M25-54 versus both the same week last season and its 2Q’12-to-date average.
- TODAY’s widened its lead over GMA compared to 2Q’12-to-date levels in rating A18-49 and rating W/M25-54.
- Versus season-to-date levels, TODAY also improved its lead over GMA in rating M/A18-49.
- TODAY has grown +11% in rating M18-49 season-to-date.
- Season-to-date, TODAY outperforms GMA by +8% (+381,000) in total viewers and by +20% (+384,000) in A25-54 (000). TODAY now tops Early Show/CBS This Morning by +112% (+2,797,000) in total viewers and by +130% (+1,315,000) in A25-54 (000).
TODAY II (9 a.m. hour) & III (10 a.m. hour) Highlights:
- TODAY II delivered 3.161 million total viewers and a 0.9 A25-54 rating.
- TODAY II posted its biggest total viewer delivery and W18-49 rating in eight weeks (since the week of April 16, 2012) and best W25-54 rating since the week of April 23, 2012.
- TODAY II topped CBS This Morning in homes (+41%), total viewers (+42% or +928,000), rating W/A18-49 (+67%/+40%) and rating W/A25-54 (+63%/+29%) while tying in rating M18-49.
- TODAY II beat The View in total viewers (+2%, or +57,000), rating W/M/A18-49 (+11%/+33%/+17%), and rating W/M/A25-54 (+8%/+67%/+13%).
- TODAY II outperformed The Talk in homes (+41%), total viewers (+40%, or +899,000), rating W/M/A18-49 (+43%/+100%/+40%), rating W/M/A25-54 (+30%/+67%/+50%).
- TODAY II beat The Chew in homes (+50%), total viewers (+48%, or +1,030,000), rating W/M/A18-49 (+67%/+33%/+75%), and rating W/M/A25-54 (+44%/+67%/+50%).
- TODAY II topped The Revolution in homes (+118%), total viewers (+132%, or +1,801,000), rating W/M/A18-49 (+100%/+100%/+133%), and rating W/M/A25-54 (+117%/+150%/+125%).
- Week-to-week, TODAY II posted gains in homes (+4%), total viewers (+4%, or +117,000), rating W/M/A18-49 (+11%/+33%/+17%), and rating W25-54 (+8%).
- TODAY II was up compared to its 2Q’12-to-date average in total viewers (+1%, or +23,000) and rating W18-49 (+11%).
- Season-to-date, TODAY II leads The View in rating M/A18-49 (+67%/+14%), and rating M/A25-54 (+50%/+11%).
- TODAY III averaged 1.973 million total viewers and a 0.6 A25-54 rating.
- TODAY III beat CBS This Morning in rating W18-49 (+17%) and rating W25-54 (+13%) and tied in rating A18-49.
- TODAY III tied The View in rating M25-54.
- TODAY III tied The Talk in rating W/M/A18-49 and rating M/A25-54.
- TODAY III led The Chew in rating W/A18-49 (+17%/+25%) and tied in homes and rating W/M/A25-54.
- TODAY III beat The Revolution in homes (+45%), total viewers (+45%, or +613,000), rating W/A18-49 (+40%/+67%), and rating W/M/A25-54 (+50%/+50%/+50%).
- Week-to-week, TODAY III was up +7% in homes and +1% (+11,000) in total viewers.
- TODAY III was up compared to the same week last season in homes (+7%) and total viewers (+3%, or +52,000).
- Versus 2Q’12-to-date levels, TODAY III was up +1% (+11,000) in total viewers and +2% in A25-54 (000).
- Season-to-date, TODAY III leads The Talk in homes (+6%), total viewers (+1%, or +11,000), rating W/M/A18-49 (+14%/+50%/+20%), and rating W/M/A25-54 (+10%/+33%/+17%).
