James (Jamie) Lichtman was named as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, NBCUniversal Television Entertainment in June 2012

In his role, Lichtman oversees lawyers supporting the NBC television network, NBCUniversal's cable networks, including Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media (EDNIM), NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment & Cable Studios, and all of their entertainment, production and merchandising operations. 

Prior to his promotion, Lichtman was Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, NBCUniversal Television Entertainment.  In that position, he served as the head lawyer for USA Network, Syfy, Chiller, Cloo, E!, Esquire Network, and Universal Cable Productions, and was also in charge of handling all of NBCUniversal’s West Coast television litigation, claims and advice on entertainment and other disputes.  He has also helped to shape NBCUniversal’s California policy agenda, advocating on NBCUniversal’s behalf in legislative, regulatory and other governmental proceedings.

Lichtman is a 1990 graduate of Stanford University Law School, where he was an editor of the Stanford Law Review.  He is also a graduate magna cum laude of the University of Pennsylvania.  Before joining NBC, he worked as a First Amendment and commercial litigator at Ropes & Gray, a large East Coast-based law firm.  He is Past Chair of the Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, serves as an Officer and Board Member of the Los Angeles Copyright Society, and is on the Board of the First Amendment Coalition and the Board of Visitors for Stanford Law School. 

Lichtman is a frequent speaker at events on issues relating to media and entertainment law.  He resides in Tarzana, Calif., with his wife, Jennifer, and two children, Spencer and Miranda.
