Marion Brooks is co-anchor of the station's 4:30 and 5:00 PM weekday newscasts. She joined the NBC 5 news team in January, 1998 as co-anchor of the 5PM and 10PM weekend newscasts.
Brooks comes to NBC 5 Chicago from WSB-TV Atlanta, Georgia where she had been an anchor of the noon newscast and reporter for the 5 PM and 6 PM newscasts since 1996.
Prior to WSB-TV, Brooks worked as a general assignment reporter for KTVI-TV in St. Louis, Missouri. After her extensive work on the midwest flood of1993, she was promoted to weekend anchor. She also received an Emmy nomination for her coverage of the flood. She received another Emmy nomination for her investigative series examining sex offender sentencing in St. Louis County.
From 1991-1993, Brooks worked as a general assignment reporter and morning anchor at WJKS-TV in Jacksonville, Florida.
She began her television career at WABG-TV in Greenville, Mississippi as weekend anchor and was promoted within six months to anchor of the weekday 6 and 11 PM newscasts.
Brooks' honors include a 1996 Associated Press Award "Honorable Mention" for her investigation on a health inspector abasing his job and a 1991 Associated Press Award for reporting.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Spelman College, and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. Brooks is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia and was raised in Portland, Oregon.
